January 21, 2025

The meeting was called to order by the assistant mayor, Ted Hoheisel, at 7:02pm.

In attendance were Wyatt Tembruell (New Mayor), Julie Laney (Clerk), Diane Schmidtz (Treasurer), and council members Ted Hoheisel, Shirley Pomrenke, and Ross Shoultz.  Guests were Gene Kowalczyk and his son, Brady.

Wyatt Tembruell was sworn into office as Mayor.

The December 17th meeting minutes were read.  Shirley made a motion to accept; seconded by Ross.  Motion carried.

Treasurer’s report was read.  Julie made a motion to accept; seconded by Ted.  Motion carried.

Appointments for 2025 were discussed and selections made.  Shirley made a motion to accept as discussed, seconded by Wyatt.  Motion carried.

Wyatt made a motion to pay the monthly bills; seconded by Shirley.  Motion carried.

Council accepted a refund check from League of Minnesota Cities for Workman’s Compensation Insurance and Property/Casualty Insurance in the amount of $160.00.

Julie presented a letter from Minnesota Rural Water that included a training calendar.  The letter mentioned about upcoming trainings and a conference that will be held.

Julie presented an email from the US Census Bureau.  It was a notification to fill out the 2025 Boundary & Annexation Survey (BAS).  Julie had completed it online.

Julie and Shirley were given permission to attend the Annual Fire Safety Meeting on February 26th at 7:30 pm at the Pierz Fire Hall.  Julie was also given permission to attend the quarterly Region 5 Clerk-Treasurer meeting at Sourcewell in Staples on Wednesday, January 29th, 2025.

Reminders were given that the deadline for the city submit the 2024 Sales & Use Tax return (for garbage payments) is on February 5th, 2025 and the deadline for the city to submit the city’s budget for 2025 is on January 31st, 2025.

Julie presented letters from Oneok mentioning partnering with Buxus to provide a mobile app to help with pipeline safety information for public officials.

The council discussed the city’s garbage pick up and the upcoming end of contract at the end of June.  Ted will look into getting bids.  We will see if the garbage company will start billing Lastrup residents directly or if the city will have to continue to do so.

The 2024 Revenue & Expense reports were handed out.  The council members were asked to look them over to discuss and approve at February’s meeting.
